4 Day Hike with Huskies Tour

Tour Itinerary

Stay in our cozy and comfortable "off the grid" Accommodations and head out each day - rain or shine! Hike the majestic mountain ridges surrounding Fish Lake and Sky High Wilderness Ranch. Climb above tree line to see breathtaking views from all angles.

This tour is a wilderness adventure that will take you into some of the most spectacular back country the Yukon has to offer! Hike mountain ridges, across creeks and through peaceful valleys.

Experienced Sky High Wilderness Staff will guide you on this interpretive hike through the pristine wilderness in the Coastal Mountains of Southern Yukon. Please note hiking does require you to be in fairly good physical shape.

All tours are guided with your safety in mind. Before commencing on any hike we provide basic information about what clothing to bring/wear, what trail conditions are, what to do if we spot wildlife (Bear safety) etc. All guides are fully certified in first aid and carry a cell phone as well as SAT Phone in case of emergency.

We do recommend that you arrive the day before your tour. Whether you arrive the day of your tour or days prior don't worry we'll take care of you. Pre and post nights can be booked for you upon request.

Day One Saturday: 1-3 hours hiking: Elevation: 1101 + Meters

We will meet you in the lobby of your hotel at 10am and take the Sky High Van from Whitehorse to Sky High Wilderness Ranch. On the way we pass McIntyre Marsh - a wetland that is home to many Yukon birds. As we climb in elevation the landscapes are breath taking! Arrive at Sky High Wilderness Ranch and meet your guide. Today after a light home cooked lunch hit the trails with a guide and some of our lovable huskies - after a short safety intro enjoy the smell and sounds of the Fish Lake Valley on your first hike -watch the huskies splash in the clear waters of Fish Creek and maybe brave a dip yourself! This creek comes from Fish Lake and early in summer there are lake trout to be seen swimming at the inlet as well as through a small pond by the bridge. Share some treats with the huskies as they roll and romp in the soft green grasses of the valley. Return to the delicious aroma of your dinner cooking in the lodge. Finish the evening with a gravity fed shower or wood heated sauna. (L, D) (L, D)

Day Two Sunday: 4 - 5 hours hiking: Elevation: 1,538 Meters

Today our hike will take us above tree line to the top of Mt Macintyre. Enjoy watching the energy of the huskies as they climb effortlessly playing with each other as they run through the summer sunshine. Picnic with the huskies at the top and take in the landscapes that surround you. Depending on time of year there are cranberries, blueberries and sage growing on this mountain side and we will gather berries for a fresh berry dessert or sage for a chicken dinner in the lodge. After dinner, relax by the fire pit with hot drinks, and recount your day's adventure with others in your group. (B, L, D)

Day Three Monday: 4-6 hours: Elevation: 1,624 meters

While having your breakfast, watch the morning skies turn a soft pink as the sun rises on your next adventure. Today we hike the Bonneville Lake Ridge. Walking in the morning splendour along the shores of Fish Lake with our four legged friends, we stop at the inlet of Fish Creek and look for Lake Trout that may be swimming there. Then we slowly begin to climb following a path that eventually turns into a smaller winding myriad of trails leading up the mountain ridge. We are on Kwanlin Dunn First Nation Land and these trails have been used by the KDFN as well as Yukon Wildlife for centuries. This area is a photographer's paradise and there are many photo opportunities with beautiful backgrounds of the flora and fauna of the area. Once you are on the top of the ridge take a few moments for a break, snack and romp with the huskies. Breathe in the pure mountain air as you start down toward Bonneville Lakes for a picnic lunch. With your guide and group choose the direction of your afternoon adventure, pack up your lunch and head again down the trail. Enjoy a cozy dinner at the lodge. Enjoy a long summer evening on our wrap-around deck. (B, L, D)

Day Four Tuesday: 4-6 hours: Elevation: 1101 + meters

Over breakfast your guide will give you the details of your next challenge. Today we hike to the Fish Lake Plateau, where views are some of the finest the Yukon has to offer. We start out along the Lake through winding treed trails along a traditional working trap line trail (approx5km) and then climb to the plateau. At the top of the Plateau we overlook the south end of Fish Lake on one side and the ibex valley on the other. Head back to town in later afternoon for last night in hotel in Whitehorse (B,L)
