Sky High Wilderness Ranch is your chance to get out and experience the beautiful wilderness that is the Yukon! There's no better way to ease the stresses of everyday than to switch off those mobile phones and soak in natures beauty. We have limited cell service, so put an 'out of office' reply on your emails and forward your phone to voicemail, you're going to spend sometime getting down and dirty with nature!
Our Ranch is located on the shores of Fish Lake and is surrounded by majestic mountains that are waiting to be explored by you atop your trusted horse. We have a range of accommodation to choose from, all come equipped with 5 star outhouses! All of our appliances and lights are run off propane and our buildings are heated by a cosy woodstove, we also haul water in from down town. This is the genuine Yukon Ranch experience, complete with rustic home cooked meals as well.
Today you will be picked up At your Hotel at 10 AM and after a short shopping trip make our way to our Lodge located on the Shores of Fish Lake at Sky High Wilderness Ranch. After a light lunch you will participate in a fun, interactive and informative kennel presentation with our Veteran Quest Musher Jocelyne LeBlanc; you will step back in time and hear about dog sled history; including the role that sled dogs played in the mail run, RCMP, hunting an trapping - then back to the present for talk of the Yukon Quest and dog sled racing. After a lovely dinner you have an option of a hike on one of our scenic trails with a husky, some free time to yourself to take photos and soak in the fresh air, or a guided 3 hr trail ride up the mountain ridge where the ride will take you to some of the most breathtaking views the Yukon has to offer. Take in the pristine landscapes as we ride the ridge overlooking Whitehorse on one side and the Fish Lake Valley on the other. Have your camera ready! Overnight at Sky High Ranch (L, D)
Wake early have a hearty breakfast and head out onto the crystal clear waters of Fish lake on a full day fishing trip and catch some lake trout to BBQ for dinner! Don't forget your camera because no matter how the fishing is you are guaranteed to see some great landscapes and maybe even some wildlife! Head back to Sky High Wilderness Ranch for a fish fry! Today after breakfast head out onto the trail on foot and hike the Bonneville Ridge with some of our loveable huskies! Watch them romp and play at the lake and dive through the forest brush playing tag and exploring all the roots and crevices in the rocks. This hike is rated as a difficulty level of easy by Yukonhiking.ca and is 7 km in distance. Once you are at the top the views are spectacular - sites to see are; two mountain lakes (Bonneville Lakes), Alpine flora and fauna, endless views in all directions, possible wildlife. This is the perfect spot for a picnic lunch, before exploring the ridge and heading back to relax at the ranch. Late afternoon you are driven back to Whitehorse where you will enjoy your last night in the Best Western Gold Rush Inn. (B, L)
